It is my honor to offer yoga practitioners, beginners and advanced, a home to practice traditional ashtanga in Santa Barbara. As an authorized teacher, my intention is to share the gift of this practice while preserving the accuracy of the method as it has been transmitted to me.

Ashtanga yoga methodically combines each movement of the breath with a movement of the body. Increasingly challenging the series create heat and sweat; develop strength, stamina and flexibility; and cultivate focus as well as humility.

Some practitioners say the benefits exceed the well-being of the body and extend to all areas of their life; I liken the process to a surgical procedure that removes the impurities which clog the arteries of the spiritual heart.

Ashtanga is traditionally practiced 6 days a week in the morning. The mysore class is a self-practice environement where the sequences are learned gradually on a one-on-one basis. This allows the students to actually internalize the practice, making it their own and drawing the attention inward rather than outward. It is a very organic, natural and easy way of learning. No prior experience is required or necessary..

As an assistant, I usually recommend high dosage of humor, compassion and patience to sweeten the medicine..
